Funds Flows Start to Show Signs of Rebalancing; Expect Big Outliers

Share

Note: Flow data is reported after close on a T+1 basis. The flows in this report reflect create/redeem activity from Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

We are now entering a key rebalancing period for many indexes and strategies. Over the next several days, it is common to observe outsized creation events in specific ETFs. These large inflows are often part of a tax-efficient rebalancing process and are typically followed by corresponding redemption activity two to three days later, which can create significant noise in the daily flows report.

Market Flow Summary

The U.S. ETF market recorded a total net inflow of $15.73 billion. The top issuer by inflow was Vanguard, which attracted $9.84 billion. The single fund with the largest inflow was the Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG). On the other side of the ledger, SPDR saw the largest outflows among issuers, shedding -$4.05 billion. The iShares U.S. Technology ETF (IYW) experienced the most significant single-fund outflow. The most notable high-velocity brand was Bluemonte, which saw outflows representing -8.63% of its aggregate assets under management.

ETF Issuer Flow Analysis

Vanguard led all issuers with a +$9.84 billion inflow, representing +0.27% of its AUM. Conversely, SPDR experienced the largest outflow at -$4.05 billion, a -0.24% change in its AUM. Bluemonte stood out as the top high-velocity brand, with an outflow of -$174.28 million translating to a significant -8.63% of its total AUM.
